I like to imagine the first day of filming for 'Burn After Reading' thusly:
The Coen Brothers, fresh from their 'No Country' success, are first to arrive, each holding a few Oscars just to show off. And with them is Frances McDormand, who didn't want to feel left out, so she's clutching her Oscar too. Then Clooney arrives, with his charm dripping out of the bottom of the limo, with his Oscar hanging out of his pocket. And who's this giant that just got here? She looks like she's made of ice - pale, pale, British ice - and she too has a new-looking shiny Oscar. It's Tilda Swinton, her off 'Young Adam'!
Meanwhile, in another corner, Brad Pitt and John Malkovich, who on other days would be considered fine actors, are scowling, since they don't have that token of recognition that the others are flaunting. Malkovich turns to Pitt and says, "Just remember, Junior. I've been nominated more times than you". Then can begin the first read-through.
Anyway, as if all those amazing people don't make you excited to see a new Coen comedy, how about the fact that the trailer has an Elbow song in it?
Why would they go to the Russians?
Unstable/mental?
I found out today that AYGH faves Robert Webb and David Mitchell have a film coming out soon. Wow! It's called Magicians, and you can download a trailer right here. It looks pretty funny, but last year's Confetti was high on talent but conspicuously low on laughs, so I'll remain cautious.
In case you don't know who Mitchell and Webb are... they've got a couple of seasons of sketch comedy that's very funny, they're the faces of the UK's Apple vs. PC ads (much funnier than that twat Justin Long), they used to have a radio show, and they star in Peep Show, a sitcom you should seek out at once.
But watch those Mac adverts and the clip below, and there's plenty more of them on Youtube.
What makes you think it was murder?
Since AYGH? is your unofficial one-stop source for news regarding Hot Fuzz, the new comedy from Pegg and Wright, here's an update. Firstly, there's a well-formed website up and running, with a contest I don't really understand, and some details about who's in it. Hey! It's Bill Bailey looking not-like-a-mental-hippie!
Also, there's a new U.S. trailer, complete with intro from Simon, Edgar and Nick. And - yes! - it's Paddy Considine!
I can't put into words how excited I am.
